Abstract

Abstract
This article focuses on the emancipatory process of the five Central American provinces (1821-1823), which began with the signing of the Guatemala Independence Act (September 15, 1821) from the ideological background that prevailed in both Guatemala and the region, derived from the constitutional monarchist model that was adopted by the Mexican Empire and the implications of the so-called Liberal Triennium. Finally, with the fall of the empire in Mexico and the monarchist power in Spain, the regional annexation project also fell, with the Act of Absolute Independence of Central America emerging as a preamble to the federative project of the union of the United Provinces of Central America.
